Zac Efron is all smiles at the 2008 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday in Los Angeles.
The 20-year-old High School Musical star and Debra Messing presented The Sopranos‘ Edie Falco with the “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series” award.

Zac Efron, the closest thing to a teen heartthrob we have in 2008, is set to take on the lead role in the movie version of Robert Kaplow’s novel, Me and Orson Welles. Richard Linklater (A Scanner Darkly) will helm the film from a screenplay adapted by Holly Gent Palmo. Efron will play a New Jersey high school student in 1937 who has a random encounter with Orson Welles that leads to his being cast in a bit part in Julius Caesar. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christian McKay will star as Welles.
Zac Efron is part of the High School Musical ensemble and was most recently seen on the big screen in the hit musical Hairspray. Efron’s currently filming Seventeen with Matthew Perry and Leslie Mann. The popular young actor also has a starring role in a musical version of Footloose in the works.
BTW - My heart goes out to Heath Ledger’s family/friends.. he passed away earlier today. He was a star of Brokeback Mountain and the upcomming Batman movie.. he will be missed. This is so sad.. RIP.

Zac Efron leaves his apartment for a check-up appointment at the Riverside Medical Building in Studio City, Calif on Sunday. (He was recently hospitalized due to appendicitis.)
On his way into the building, Zac dropped his car keys and gave photogs a great view of his blue boxer briefs.
The 20-year-old High School Musical hottie was later seen picking up a hot drink at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and then a smoothie from Jamba Juice. Zac whipped out cash from his Louis Vuitton wallet.

Earlier in the day, Vanessa was seen getting out of her Audi S4 Cabriolet convertible in a very tight parking spot at Bobs Big Boy restaurant. The High School Musical hottie then sped off to pick up Zac.
Zac was recently hospitalized due to appendicitis.
Zanessa grabbed lunch at California Pizza Kitchen for a bite to eat before heading home.

Zac Efron has been confirmed to star in Me and Orson Welles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Zac was spotted reading the Me and Orson Welles screenplay back in August.
The film is set in 1937 and the story centers on high school student Richard Samuels (Efron). While strolling the streets of New York, Samuels happens upon the yet-to-open Mercury Theatre and is noticed by its mercurial founder, Orson Welles (Christian McKay). The man lands a bit part in Julius Caesar, the production that catapulted Welles to the top, and spends the next week learning about life and love.
Welles will shoot mid-February and March in New York, London and the Isle of Man. Disney’s High School Musical 3: Senior Year will begin filming April 21st.
Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens were spotted shopping at one of their favorite stores, Urban Outfitters, on Sunday afternoon in Studio City, Calif.
Zanessa looked cute as ever–Vanessa wore the same outfit she wore to the music studio earlier in the day and Zac wore a blue plaid buttondown over a white t-shirt.
The couple took the time to greet an elderly fan before driving off in her Audi convertible.
